F.U.S.E fest returns this weekend to Fresno

The Catacomb Party isn’t the only local music festival – F.U.S.E (Fresno Urban Sound Experience) is entering its sixth year with another great lineup of local bands.

15 bucks gets you two nights of music at some great venues. There are some changes this year – the festival is smaller (as a result of Catacomb…?) but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth visiting. Seriously, $15 for two nights of music? It’s a steal.

While previous years have included up to a dozen venues, this year it’s limited to 8 stages in 4 venues, all at the northern side of downtown. The first night is exclusively at Fulton 55, alternating between the main stage and a smaller stage upstairs, while the second night is mostly at the Warnor’s theater complex. One cool thing is that they’re apparently using the main stage, which should be fun for the bands. As usual, Tokyo Garden closes out the night – but you have to get there before the music starts if you want food. Click to read more!

Review and pictures of weekend FUSE Festival

This past weekend was the return of the Fresno Urban Sound Experience, or FUSE fest. This music festival aims to accomplish two goals: Highlight local bands, and bring people to downtown venues.

The festival has been held since 2008, and this year has been the largest. It was also my first time visiting. As $20 bought access to every show over two days, I decided it was well worth a trip.

The organizers clustered venues on the two nights. Friday was the south end of downtown, with Saturday being at the north end.

Note: Map shows Karma which dropped out and was replaced by “The Downtown Club” on the same street.

“Living Green” lecture recap, part one

I attended the Living Green lecture held at Fulton 55 in downtown Fresno on Monday of this week I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout, with over 50 people in attendance for the two hour event.

The presentation itself began with an official from the city of Fresno to discuss sustainability, water and energy use in Fresno, and how saving energy can help boost the local economy.

The speaker from the city clearly believed what he was talking about. He mentioned that his home has solar power and he drives a prius. But he wasn’t there to preach about green living, he was there to give out facts and let us see why being sustainable simply makes sense for the individual, and for the city as a whole.
